Early last week our team moved our Singapore PoP from one datacenter into Equinix SG3. This was a complex task, but with proper planning and near-perfect execution we were able to keep downtime to a minimum for our clients.
Before we get into the nitty-gritty you might wonder, why perform the move at all? Well, in short, we needed more network connectivity to support our growth in Singapore and the southeast Asia region.

Why did we move?

- Equinix SG3 is one of the most interconnected data centers in Singapore. This allows us to reach more tier 1 provider and peering exchanges than before.
- Upgrades to core network switches
- Upgrade to Corero mitigation appliances
- Ability to grow without concern for network or space bottlenecks

Now that’s out of the way, let’s get down to the actual move itself. This involved two of our staff flying over to perform the physical move of servers. Before they did anything, they ensured with the help of our network engineer that core networking was online in both sites. This meant servers were only offline while they were unracked, driven across Singapore and racked into Equinix SG3.

New Core equipment, and a load of servers

It wasn’t just our guys on the ground that made the move go smoothly, our team back home continually monitored support channels and kept clients up to date via our status page to ensure no one was left in the dark. With it all said and done, the team at Streamline servers would like to thank our clients for sticking with us throughout this data center transfer. It will allow us to continue the growth of our premium network into the South East Asia region.

So, what’s next? In the next few weeks, we’ll be deploying equipment in Adelaide, South Australia. Keep an eye out for further updates!
